All depends on how far apart you are, if he's as interested in you are you are in him and what your expectations are. If you can't see each other fairly regularly, it's going to die from lack of attention. You can't be close to someone you can't be close to. Guys your age have very short attention spans, so the level of commitment from someone your age is going to be different from someone say, 10 years older.
