By Snubbing Chris Christie at CPAC, the GOP Proves They?ve Gone Fringe

more from Sarah Jones

republican-tent

CPAC is suggesting that they snubbed Chris Christie this year. He is not ?invited? to the cray-cray. That?s what he gets for helping his constituents by dealing with the President.

Another way of looking at this is that only Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) is smart enough to avoid addressing CPAC this year. He?s already proven that he?s able to strategize for the long term and knows the value of being seen working with the President and Democrats.

The rest of the clowns are piling into the shrinking GOP tent, including electoral losers Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney. Of course, neither of them have a thing to lose; they?ve already lost.

For some reason, NBC suggests that this means CPAC is mainstream. While I get how they got there (CPAC used to be far right of the party, anti-establishment), I think what it really means is that the entire Republican Party has gone fringe. They just don?t know it yet.

Let?s recap: Republicans, including the headliners at CPAC, are all polling poorly and have lost national elections precisely because of their positions. CPAC is the driver of those losing positions (wrong on immigration, wrong on gay rights, wrong on women?s rights, wrong on taxing the rich, etc).

CPAC is also a happy home for white supremacists and the NRA while banning gay Republicans like GOProud. If you were planning to run for President in 2016 and thought you might like to actually win, would you want to be seen pallin? around with plummeting poll contagion? Would you want your picture taken with Mitt 47% Cayman Romney or Sarah Death Panels Palin?

CPAC is snubbing the Republican with the highest approval ratings (Chris Christie), while cozying up to already-losts and never-will-bes. So while CPAC may be establishment Republican now, it?s not mainstream. And that?s because the Republican Party is no longer mainstream.

The Tea Party has driven the Republican Party off of the cliff of reality and national electability. Republican ?stars? Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and Paul Ryan will all be hawking their wares at CPAC (anyone want to buy a water bottle?).

Anyone seen their polling numbers lately? They have to go to CPAC. A section of the conservative fringe is all they have.

Christie had his fun playing the raging Obama hater last year at CPAC. But it?s time to get serious about winning a national election, and perhaps the governor distinguishes himself from his brethren via his ability to read a poll sans skewing.

Chris Christie is the only Republican who stands a chance in 2016 and he?s not going to ruin that by getting smeared with CPAC stench. Maybe they snubbed him, maybe it was mutual. No matter what, not appearing at CPAC will only help the Governor, who seems to have realized that appeasing crazy doesn?t feel as great as actually winning.

Military plane crashes in Yemen, kills at least 9

SANAA, Yemen (AP) ? A Yemeni military plane crashed Tuesday into a neighborhood in the country's capital, Sanaa, killing at least nine people and injuring 18, medical and security officials said.

The plane crashed during a training exercise, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Mohammed al-Mawry. It hit two houses in the al-Qadissiya district, al-Mawry told The Associated Press. He said the pilot was also killed in the crash.

The spokesman did not give a reason for the crash but said military experts were investigating the incident.

An eyewitness, Ahmed Fathi, said he saw five burnt bodies taken away by an ambulance. Fathi, who lives in the neighborhood, also said two houses were completely destroyed in the crash and that people were still believed to be under the rubble.

The neighborhood is close to the main city square that was the epicenter of Yemen's uprising and protests in the past two years.

Medical officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said the civilians killed in the crash included three women, two children and four men. They said there were more victims under the rubble.

Video: Cameras banned as Obama golfs with Tiger Woods

>>> president obama returns to washington tonight following a presidents' day weekend golf vacation in florida. yesterday's for some was a memorable one, since one of the four was tiger woods . that's a first for both men. the presidential golf outing is a long-time tradition. so is the desire to stay out of camera range, most of the time. though this might be a little different. nbc's andrea mitchell is with us tonight from washington with more. andrea, good evening.

>> good evening, brian. the president's downtime is very special time. the white house also has made a commitment to have a small group of reporters following him everywhere he goes. all that blew up this weekend in florida when white house reporters were locked out of an exclusive golf club and only found out that the world's most powerful man was playing a round with the world's most famous golfer on twitter from the golf channel . when fdr died in warm springs , georgia in 1945 , white house reporters were in washington . when president eisenhower had his first heart attack after playing 27 holes of golf outside denver in 1955 , the press corps was first told it was indie jegs. ronald reagan rode horseback at his ranch out any coverage. president bill ton had to be carried off tearing his achilles tendon . the traveling press corps, miles away . most americans understand, the presidency is 24/7. presidents deserve time off beyond weekends at camp david . there is also something else at work here, historians say. be prepared to see a different barack obama in the second term compared to the first term. willing to do things that may reflect negatively on him, like playing golf with a controversial figure like tiger woo woods.

>> it's true that if he had played golf with tiger woods during the campaign, it might have been interpreted differently. and anything was fair game or a source of controversy in a campaign. so, of course, he feels more liberated now to do something like that.

>> reporter: the white house president corps only found out from the golf channel 's tim roseford on twitter and then on air.

>> to see them drive off to the first tee, tiger in the passengers seat to play together and they had a blast.

>> reporter: while cameras are never howed to see much, president bush 41 welcomed coverage in kennebunkport, president's clinton and obama have seen on martha's vineyard. and president bush 43 talked about terrorism on the golf course .

>> i call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. thank you. now watch this drive.

>> reporter: and this white house was eager to show the president enjoying quality time with john boehner and bill clinton .

>> this is not about a trivial issue like a golf game. we don't really care about the president's score. what we care about is access to the president of the united states . whether it's a democrat or a republican.

>> reporter: tonight the white house says that cameras were kept out because the president was playing on a private course and they were planning to announce the round with tiger woods at the end of the day , had it not been tweeted out first. brian?

Is "Left" Vs. "Right" Hard-coded Into Your Brain?

New submitter kyjellyfish writes "Research published in the journal PLOS ONE, suggests that your parents 'Left or 'Right' party affiliations are not the only factor at work shaping a person's political identity. Differences in opinion between 'Lefties' and 'Righties' may reflect specific physiological processes. In research performed over 10 years ago, brain scans showed that London cab drivers' gray matter grew larger to help them store a mental map of the city." From the article: "Other scans have shown that brain regions associated with risk and uncertainty, such as the fear-processing amygdala, differ in structure in liberals and conservatives. And different architecture means different behavior. Liberals tend to seek out novelty and uncertainty, while conservatives exhibit strong changes in attitude to threatening situations. The former are more willing to accept risk, while the latter tends to have more intense physical reactions to threatening stimuli."

Seth Curry?s Mom Blows Up On Twitter

The Blue Devils hosted UNC on Wednesday night and won a surprisingly competitive game, but the real story was Sonya Curry?s celebration.

After her son, Seth, hit a big three in the second half, Sonya celebrated with a duck face fist pump that sent the Internet into a frenzy. Check out some of the best tweets below:

Sonya Curry, the wife of former NBA sharp-shooter Dell Curry, shot to fame when her other son, Stephen, starred at Davidson.

With even ESPN?s Dick Vitale stating Wednesday night that Sonya Curry looked more like Seth?s sister than his mom, we have a feeling Mrs. Curry is going to be the toast of March again when the NCAA tournament starts next month.

Sony Xperia Z can be used as an underwater cam, watch it film inside a swimming pool

1. _Bone_ posted on 3 hours ago 1 17

They should've focused on land camera performance instead of underwater, same goes for the screen viewing over making it idiot-proof.

3. rusticguy posted on 3 hours ago 3 8

They are probably aiming to sell under water. These are nothing but gimmicks. They should have concentrated more on battery :)

4. _Bone_ posted on 3 hours ago 8 5

Dolphins are the target market.

8. rusticguy posted on 3 hours ago 0 7

Yea probably they want it for recording how they are tortured in Japanese waters so that IOC could consider turning down Japan's 2020 bid for Olympics.

15. pwnarena posted on 2 hours ago 2 0

maybe just feelin bitter because sammy and nokia can't do it with their high end devices. it's the same thing with why would you want to have a camera that can take good low light photos. are you spying on someone behind the shadows? why do you need a splitting screen while watching a movie and monitoring the stock market on your GN when you can just buy two diferent devices at lower prices? these new features serve some good purposes but fans of competing brands just refuse to acknowledge that they can also be useful.

13. Stedus posted on 2 hours ago 4 0

Easy: say good bye to your S3 :))

17. pwnarena posted on 2 hours ago 0 0

you wouldn't be too stupid to take a device to water with you when you know the device can't endure getting in contact with water. you will by a waterproofing case first. invalid argument.

please, if you support xz, make more sensible comments. sony fans need to have some class unlike those brainwashed sammy cult followers.

10. PhoneArenaUser posted on 2 hours ago 2 0

Try that with Oppo Find 5...

12. _Bone_ posted on 2 hours ago 0 9

Why would I go underwater WITH A PHONE! Hello?

But gotta give props for marketing. Dusting off $300 extra profit never was this easy.

19. PhoneArenaUser posted on 2 hours ago 4 0

Maybe you won't, but maybe other will, world is big and there is more people than only you! I even don't talk that there still is a chance that phone may get wet by accident and that's mean IP57 certificate is advantage not disadvantage!

28. _Bone_ posted on 2 hours ago 0 1

Sony fanatics already wet themselves so I guess the IP57 certificate comes handy ;) but I tell you right now: SIX WEEKS and dozens of them will storm forums infuriated, claiming Sony cheated them cause the phone went to the crapper on their first jump into the swimming pool. Which of course is because it's not really an underwater gadget as the video advertises, the 1m resistance is not enough even for pocket depth, and most ppl's hands go below that while swimming.

There will be lawsuits by ppl. who accidentally dropped the phone while fooling around in the pool or sea as 3 feets under is game over, so the world might be big, but the Z's underwater resitance is quite shallow.

24. rgxVOiD posted on 2 hours ago 1 0

The question is not why, but why not.

25. PhoneArenaUser posted on 2 hours ago 0 0

Sometimes data inside the phone is more worth than a phone by itself so IP57 certificate is handy advantage for a phone even if you won't going to dive in to the pool with it. I even don't talk that there still is a chance that phone may get wet by any other accidents than only a pool.

14. GTR722 posted on 2 hours ago 3 0

Read more reviews of the Z. The only one where they troll the camera is in this Samsung site. Phone Arena is a well know Sony hater site, look at the reviews of their phones and compare it with samsung. Just the Xperia P and the GS3 Mini one is a disgrace.

29. _Bone_ posted on 2 hours ago 0 1

Or they tested all phones unlike you, therefore have an objective view. A poll would probably make the S3 the phone of the year, yet it didn't even make PhoneArena top3 of 2012, where a Samsung landed both in the worst phone and worst tablet category. So your suggestion of preferential treatment is complete rubbish.

6. p5yb0rg posted on 3 hours ago 0 5

I will NEVER buy another sony phone.. In terms of comparable pricing to features, Sony phones are drastically overpriced and do not provide any significant features to justify their high costs. Sony does not offer anything but subpar performance and their support in terms of software updates, is by far the worst I've seen. The Xperia Z would probably never see the likes of KLP, it should be tossed in a pool and left there.

11. emadshiny posted on 2 hours ago 1 0

so you can buy Iphone with its affordable price. LOL.

18. p5yb0rg posted on 2 hours ago 0 2

23. emadshiny posted on 2 hours ago 2 0

so you think HTC one is cheaper than this one?
you're wrong. it is more costly.

27. rgxVOiD posted on 2 hours ago 0 0

soo... burst mode (68 sec. = 999 photos), video HDR, dust/water resistance, superior auto, dragontail glass, glonass, low SAR value, and being just a little larger than GSIII while having a bigger screen counts as "does not offer anything", then I don't know what you want. Subpar performance you say? Xperia V is faster than GSIII in most of the benchmarks and that's dual-core so this should not be subpar. Software updates, we'll see, time will tell

7. amiroo posted on 3 hours ago 0 4

oooo plz enough we know thats water resistance but xperia have only this advantage!!??
its not enough plz produce it for dolphin or shark under the water..
