Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos says that his deep-sea sonar expedition in the Atlantic has located the five engines used to launch Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins to the moon in 1969, and he plans to bring at least one of them to the surface.?

A private expedition financed by Amazon.com founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos has discovered the five?F-1 rocket engines?used to launch Apollo 11 into space on July 16, 1969 and is drawing up plans to retrieve one or more so they can be publicly displayed.

"I'm excited to report that, using state-of-the-art deep sea sonar, the team has found the Apollo 11 engines lying 14,000 feet below the surface, and we're making plans to attempt to raise one or more of them from the ocean floor," Bezos wrote in a statement posted to the?Bezos Expeditions website. "We don't know yet what condition these engines might be in - they hit the ocean at high velocity and have been in salt water for more than 40 years. On the other hand, they're made of tough stuff, so we'll see."

NASA's Saturn V remains today, more than 40 years later, the largest and most powerful rocket ever built. It used a cluster of five 12.2-foot (3.7-meter) wide F-1 engines as its foundation, with each 18.5-foot (5.6-meter) tall engine capable of generating 1.5 million pounds of thrust ? about 32 million horsepower ? as it burned about 6,000 pounds of rocket fuel every second. Bezos said he was only 5 years old when he watched with rapt attention when Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins made their historic voyage to the moon. But it was only recently that a question struck his mind.

"A year or so ago, I started to wonder, with the right team of undersea pros, could we find and potentially recover the F-1 engines that started mankind's mission to the moon?" Bezos wrote.

It was then that Bezos began planning what his website billed as the F-1 Engine Recovery expedition.

If one of the Apollo 11 F-1 engines is ultimately recovered, it will be turned over to NASA, Bezos added.

"Though they've been on the ocean floor for a long time, the engines remain the property of NASA. If we are able to recover one of these F-1 engines that started mankind on its first journey to another heavenly body, I imagine that NASA would decide to make it available to the Smithsonian for all to see.," Bezos wrote. "If we're able to raise more than one engine, I've asked NASA if they would consider making it available to the excellent?Museum of Flight here in Seattle."

Nevada Gaming Policy Committee Meets on Online Poker

The Nevada Gaming Policy Committee, which hadn?t been convened in nearly three decades, met on Wednesday to discuss the topic of online poker regulation.

The GPC, headed by the state?s governor (currently Gov. Brian Sandoval) last met in 1984, according to the committee website. But with the state in the process of issuing licenses for online poker, the group decided to meet this week. The GPC is an advisory panel that makes recommendations to the Nevada Gaming Commission or the State Gaming Control Board.

The most interesting news from the meeting in Las Vegas was the information about the timeline for licenses to be approved. According to an article by Howard Stutz in the Las Vegas Review-Journal:

So far, more than two dozen casino operators and gaming equipment manufacturers have applied for Interactive gaming licenses. (Gaming Control Board Chairman Mark) Lipparelli said state regulators could conduct public hearings on the first licenses in May or June.

However, websites catering to in-state poker players can?t go live until the technology is approved.

?We have not seen any systems submitted yet for approval,? Lipparelli said.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ? So, we move from clash to wrath with essentially the same result: complete uninvolvement.

Wrath of the Titans, the lacklustre sequel to 2010?s lacklustre Clash of the Titans, is another yawnworthy action-adventure fantasy.

Clash, a remake of a namesake 1981 sword-and-sorcery epic, was based on Greek mythology and all the larger-than-life melodrama taking place on Mount Olympus.? The special effects may have been in 3-D, but everything else was in 1-D.? At best.

Wrath of the Titans takes place a decade after Clash.? Perseus, the demigod son of Zeus, played once again by Sam Worthington, lives the quiet life of a village fisherman and the sole parent of his ten-year-old son following his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken.

But the battle for supremacy between the gods and the Titans goes on.? The gods feel they are losing control of the imprisoned Titans, who are ruled by three brothers ? king of the gods and the ruler of Mount Olympus, Zeus (Liam Neeson); god of the underworld, Hades (Ralph Fiennes); and god of the sea, Poseidon (Danny Huston) ? who have long since overthrown their powerful father, Kronos.

But Perseus cannot help but be pulled back into the battle to rescue his father when Hades, who has made a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus, unleashes hell on earth, teaming with the traitorous god of war, Ares (Edgar Ramirez).

Perseus turns to the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon?s demigod son Agenor (Toby Kebbell), and the fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), and embarks on a quest into the treacherous underworld to rescue Zeus and overthrow the Titans, thus saving mankind in the name of possible further sequels.

Director Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles; Darkness Falls; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning), works from a by-the-numbers, gods-and-monsters screenplay by Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson, based on a story by Mazeau, Johnson, and Greg Berlanti, that is silly and literal-minded in the extreme.

Oh, it?s got plot points galore, but none of them register dramatically enough to make us care while we?re gaping.

No matter how young you are, this kidflick feels from first frame to last like something you?ve already outgrown.? Our sense of wonder never makes its way out of the popcorn box.

It?s the action sequences, most of them involving extended hand-to-hand combat, that obviously comprise the tail that wags the dog here.? The film actually feels like one long action sequence.? Ands is that action kinetic, as intended? Sure.? Moreover, it?s antic and frantic.

But is it at all suspenseful, also as intended, even for a moment?? Puh-leeze.

With the unleashing of a ?multitide of terrifying demons? ? that is, killing-machine monsters such as the Makhai and the Chimera and the Minotaur and the Cyclops, rendered in digital-special-effects splendor as harbingers of doom ? we come to realize to our chagrin that we are back once again in soulless Transformers territory.

Oh, joy ? CGI.? Standing for, in this case, Crushingly Gigantic Indifference.

Worthington is ? broken record time ? a charisma-less leading man, although he?s not helped much by the script.? But to watch actors as gifted as Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes stand around and deliver this silly, anachronistic dialogue is to see severe underemployment in closeup.

But let?s get back to the important stuff: yes, the film is available, in case you?re interested, in highly unnecessary 3-D.

So we?ll clash with 1? stars out of 4 for the juvenile and not worthwhile Wrath of the Titans.

No wrath incurred in this corner.? Just boredom.

Five high school students are building their very own Viper ? the fighter spacecraft of the protagonists in the TV show Battlestar Galactica ? right in a garage. Because it's not quite possible to build a spacecraft in your backyard with a limited budget, the teenagers took the fuselage of an old, small plane and mounted it on a platform that can rotate 360 degrees. The motion control platform turns the erstwhile harmless aircraft scrap into a nauseating ride, as you can see in the video above. We hope the one who gave it a test spin hadn't eaten his lunch yet.

The young engineers and their mentors are building the Viper simulator for the Bay Area Maker Faire in May. The Viper in the video is far from being complete, though?? the students plan to modify it further to resemble the real Viper more. To cover the costs of building the simulator, the team is trying to raise $10,000 on Kickstarter. They're also accepting donations through the project's official website.

Supports for patients living with leukemia and lymphoma is the topic of the next Cancer Answers public lecture.

The Cancer Care Nova Scotia event will be held Tuesday, April 3, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in the Royal Bank Lecture Theatre of the Halifax Infirmary, 1796 Summer St., Halifax. It will also be available by video conference at 17 sites across the province.

The lecture series is designed to provide Nova Scotians with quality cancer information. The lecture will be presented by Tanya Hastings, patient services manager, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.

"A diagnosis of leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma or myelodysplastic syndrome is difficult for patients and their families," said Ms Hastings. "Through funding blood cancer research, education and patient services, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada is working to ease the journey for patients who are living with these cancers.

"During this lecture, I will talk about the support services available through our society and how patients, families and health professionals can access them."

Cancer Care Nova Scotia, a program of the Department of Health and Wellness, was created in 1998 to facilitate quality cancer prevention and care for Nova Scotians. It supports health professionals in providing patients with high quality care.

Its work with other organizations and its screening programs raise awareness about the importance of healthy lifestyles to reduce cancer risk, and educate Nova Scotians about available testing such as Pap tests for cervical cancer and Home Screening Kits for colon cancer. The goal is to find cancer earlier and treat it better.

Another Japan reactor shuts down; only one left

TOKYO (AP) ? Another Japanese nuclear reactor was taken off line for maintenance on Monday, leaving the country with only one of its 54 reactors operational following last year's devastating earthquake and tsunami.

The last reactor is expected to be shut down by early May, raising the possibility of power shortages across the nation as demand increases in the hot summer months.

The No. 6 reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa complex was taken off line early Monday by the Tokyo Electric Power Co. The utility also runs the plant in Fukushima, northeast of Tokyo, that suffered meltdowns, explosions and radiation leaks after the March 11 quake and tsunami.

Japanese reactors are taken off line every 13 months for regular checks. With concerns over nuclear safety high following the Fukushima crisis, none of the reactors that have been shut down for checks, and none that were already off line at the time of the disaster, have been allowed to restart.

The last reactor, on the northern island of Hokkaido, will be shut down in May. The timing for when any reactors will be restarted remains unclear.

Before the crisis, Japan depended on nuclear power for one-third of its electricity. Japan's government wants to restart reactors as soon as "stress tests" prove they are safe, but faces strong public opposition. Local leaders, fearing a political backlash, are reluctant to give their approval.

Authorities have required all reactors to undergo the stress tests and make necessary modifications to improve safety. The stress tests, similar to those used in France and elsewhere in Europe, are designed to assess how well the plants can withstand earthquakes, tsunamis, storms, loss of power and other crises.

Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has promised to reduce Japan's reliance on nuclear power over time and plans to lay out a new energy policy by the summer.

In the meantime, Japan has temporarily turned to oil and coal generation plants to make up for the shortfall, and businesses have been required to reduce electricity use to help with conservation efforts.

This waif of a tablet certainly took its sweet time getting here. We first laid eyes on this lightweight beauty last August and while it still hasn't landed in the US just yet (under the guise of the Excite 10 LE) we've brought in the international version -- already in stores in the UK -- to test out the hardware, which appears to be identical. On first appearances, it's an attractive sliver of a slab, due to the magnesium alloy body, of which there isn't much. Measuring in at just 7.7mm thick, we're talking RAZR-scale thinness and a 1.18 pound weigh-in that embarrasses 7-inch devices. Despite this, we still have a 1.2GHz dual-core OMAP processor, running Honeycomb 3.2 on a 10.1 inch touchscreen. But surely, sacrifices must have been made, right? Well, it looks like it's a financial cost that has to be paid. The 16GB version is currently on sale for £399, matching the new iPad in the UK, and likely to arrive in the US at around $530, pricing itself quite a bit above existing, similarly-specced, Android favorites like the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Thanks to risks in the market and extreme stock volatility over the past few years, many investors sought out more stability in their portfolios along with high levels of current income. Unfortunately, bond yields were quite low pushing many into high-dividend-paying stocks instead.

Beyond individual securities, investments in equity ETFs, which have stocks that pay high-dividend yields, emerged as a source of decent income for investors at this time. This has proven to be a pretty good strategy as intermediate-term bonds are still yielding below broad stock markets and equities are rising higher so far in 2012 as well (see: Emerging Markets Dividend ETFs for Income, Growth & Diversification).

Risk in Dividend ETFs

While dividend-focused ETFs may be safer than other equity funds, they are by no means risk-free. These securities still have market risk and can experience more volatility than their bond cousins.

Furthermore, there is always the risk that dividends could be cut if a company runs into trouble while bond investors are more likely to see their payments paid out on a regular basis thanks to their improved position in a liquidity event (see: Is The Bear Market For Bond ETFs Finally Here?).

Russell Product Launches

Nevertheless, Russell Investments, a global asset manager, looks to continue its push in the space with the launch of two new high-yield dividend ETFs. These funds are exposed to stocks that offer high dividend yields, helping to supplement current income at this time.

The two ETFs, the Russell High Dividend Yield ETF (HDIV) and Russell Small Cap High Dividend Yield ETF (DIVS) have been designed to replicate the performance of the US Large Cap High Dividend Yield and Russell US Small Cap High Dividend Yield Indexes, respectively, giving investors access to a portfolio of stocks in the US market that have outsized yields.

The two funds seek to build their investment portfolio by not only including those companies with high dividend yields, but also by evaluating each company on quality metrics. These metrics hope to find companies that have the capacity to payout more in dividends, grow their current payouts, while still having strong earnings.

This quality characteristic is then assessed on the basis of various financial measures such as cash flow generation capacity of the company, return on equity and what analysts expects as regards to the future earnings of the company.

By using this method, Russell looks to bring greater transparency to the stock selection approach while avoiding some of the pitfalls that hit many other products in the space. For example, many other funds concentrate solely on high yields without any scrutiny on financial strength, a situation that can lead to trouble if payouts start to become in danger.

Russell High Dividend Yield ETF

This fund, which looks to be passively managed, will track the performance of the Russell US Large Cap High Dividend Yield Index. The Index is a subset of the Russell 1000 and includes those stocks which have the highest dividend yield while passing the screening criteria lined-out above. The index holds a total of 75 stocks with Kraft Foods (KFT) being at the top position of the list.

The concentration risk of the ETF seems to be very high with 50% of asset invested in the top 10 holdings of the company, indicating the fund is not very well spread out (Alternative ETF Weighting Methodologies 101). The fund will charge a fee of 33 basis points a year for its services, roughly in line with other products in the space.

Small Cap High Dividend Yield ETF

This fund has been designed to replicate the performance of the Russell US Small Cap High Dividend Yield Index. The Index is a subset of the Russell 2000 and represents those stocks from the parent index which offers high dividend yields that are sustainable. The fund will hold a total of 150 stocks with expense ratio of 38 basis points.

Equity ETF Competition

The universe of dividend ETF has more than 40 funds designed to meet investor needs across a variety of sectors. The most popular among these is the Vanguard Dividend Appreciation (VIG). VIG has been specifically designed to include those companies in its holding list which have increased their dividends in the each of the last 10 years and tracks the performance of the Dividend Achievers Select Index.

VIG is one of the inexpensive funds in the ETF dividend space with an expense ratio of just 0.18%. The fund has a dividend yield of 2.23% and total return of 6.19% over one year period. VIG also has a history of constant dividend payments since its inception in 2006 (see: Top Three High Yield Financial ETFs).

Another ETF which has been popular among the investors is SPDR S&P Dividend (SDY). The fund, which is passively managed, replicates the performance of the S&P High Yield Dividend Aristocrats Total Return Index. SDY has been specifically designed to include those companies in its holding list which have increased their dividends in each of the last 25 years. The ETF charges fees of 35 basis points and delivered a total return of 7.25% over the past year.

Market uncertainty leads to increased investments in dividend ETFs as investors seeks for a certain level of income by their side. But consistency in dividend payment and how financially strong actually the company is should also be key considerations for choosing a dividend ETF.

Due to this factor, the recently launched products from Russell, DVIS and HDIV, could see a great deal of inflows from a number of investors. The funds will face heavy competition but their targeted portfolios and quality controls could help to mitigate some risks and make the new funds among the safest choices in the dividend ETF world.

How the smell of food affects how much you eat

Bite size depends on the familiarly and texture of food. Smaller bite sizes are taken for foods which need more chewing and smaller bite sizes are often linked to a sensation of feeling fuller sooner. New research published in BioMed Central's open access journal Flavour, launched today, shows that strong aromas lead to smaller bite sizes and suggests that aroma may be used as a means to control portion size.

The aroma experience of food is linked to its constituents and texture, but also to bite size. Smaller bites sizes are linked towards a lower flavour release which may explain why we take smaller bites of unfamiliar or disliked foods. In order to separate the effect of aroma on bite size from other food-related sensations researchers from the Netherlands developed a system where a custard-like dessert was eaten while different scents were simultaneously presented directly to the participants nose.

The results showed that the stronger the smell the smaller the bite. Dr Rene A de Wijk, who led the study, explained, "Our human test subjects were able to control how much dessert was fed to them by pushing a button. Bite size was associated with the aroma presented for that bite and also for subsequent bites (especially for the second to last bite). Perhaps, in keeping with the idea that smaller bites are associated with lower flavour sensations from the food and that, there is an unconscious feedback loop using bite size to regulate the amount of flavour experienced."

This study suggests that manipulating the odour of food could result in a 5-10% decrease in intake per bite. Combining aroma control with portion control could fool the body into thinking it was full with a smaller amount of food and aid weight loss.

Flavour aims to understand the psychophysical, psychological and chemical aspects of flavour, which include not only taste and aroma, but also chemesthesis, texture, and all the senses.

Review - Jack Canfield - The Success Principles

The Success Principles ? Author Background

Jack Canfield is an enormously successful self help and inspirational author, having written or edited over 60 best selling books ? with a combined total of over 80 million copies in print around the world. He is also an internationally known speaker, delivering hundreds of keynote speeches, workshops and trainings each year.

He is best known for co-authoring the Chicken Soup For The Soul book series, which consists of inspiring short stories of ordinary people who have done extraordinary things. It was the success of the original book of this series that catapulted Canfield and his co-author Mark Victor Hansen to success in the mid 1990s.

Starting his career as a history teacher, Jack Canfield met his mentor W. Clement Stone. According to Canfield, it was Stone who first exposed him to the idea of a set of principles for success. He started to work for Stone, teaching Stone?s success principles to others. It was during this time that Canfield began to work on and develop his own principles for success.

Since the success of the Chicken Soup For The Soul Series, Canfield has written many successful self help books, such as The Success Principles, The Power of Focus, and The Aladdin Factor.

Book Overview

The Success Principles is a self help book aimed at giving you the principles, tools, techniques and ideas that you need to achieve success in every area of your life ? your health, career, finances, relationships, and spirituality ? whatever success means to you.

As the tagline suggests, the book aims to help you to get from where you are to where you want to be.

So how does it do this?

Where appropriate, step-by-step instructions for implementing the principle are presented and exercises are outlined for integrating the principle into your daily life.

My Opinion of the Book

The Success Principles is one of my all-time favourite self help books. It truly is a tremendous achievement by Jack Canfield. The depth and breadth of the material is almost without equal in all of the personal development and self help books I have read.

From the beginning I was impressed with the fresh insight that Jack Canfield brings to the principles of personal development. First of all, Canfield?s extensive writing experience can be clearly seen from the beginning of the book ? this book is very well written.

The ideas that are presented form a complete and cohesive set of success principles. Each principle can be clearly seen to contribute to success in life, and the principles are listed in a natural sequence, so that later principles build on earlier, more fundamental ones.

Each principle is explained in plain English, and the benefits of implementing each principle are made crystal clear. Step-by-step instructions for integrating each principle into our daily lives are presented, and any obstacles that are likely to come up are highlighted. Each principle is brought to life with numerous relevant personal stories of successful people who have used each principle to get more of what they want in their lives.

The book gives a full and complete picture of what you need to do to get what you want from life.

How the Book Impacted My Own Life

I remember being tremendously excited when I first began reading this book. From the first page of the introduction, I felt like this was a really authoritative, well written self help book and I expected a lot from it.

It didn?t fail to deliver.

Since I bought the book, The Success Principles has become my ?bible? of self improvement. I can honestly say that I have learned more from this book and achieved more by applying the principles than with any other self help book I have read. I will give two examples of where the book has especially helped me in my own life.

Firstly, I used to get frustrated when the following process would happen in my life: 1) I would get really motivated from something I had read or listened to, 2) I would reconnect with what I really wanted, 3) I would take some definite action and for a few days start to make progress in achieving my goals, and 4) I would inevitably lose my focus and 2 months later I would have made virtually no progress.

The Success Principles helped me to realise more than ever the importance of practicing daily success habits ? that is setting aside time each day to practice the fundamentals ? such as reviewing my goals, visualising what I want, practicing appreciation, acknowledging my successes, planning my day the night before, and more besides. I learned that success is about getting the fundamentals in place first, so that I can keep my focus on what is most important to me, and maintain the right mindset where I will continue to make progress towards achieving what I really want.

Secondly, the section on Success and Money taught me some life-changing lessons about how to improve my financial situation, and where I should be placing my focus. It helped me to understand how my money habits were not supporting me, and gave me new insights into how I could change them for the better.

Conclusion

The Success Principles is one of the best self help books that I have ever read. It is extremely well written and contains a wealth of information on how to get from where you are to where you want to be in life. Whatever success means to you, this book can help you to find it. I highly recommend Jack Canfield?s The Success Principles.
